For those who have had babies:

Why is it bad if you’re past your due date?

My moms friend is at the hospital and they’re trying to induce labor, she’s 9 days past her due date. Nothing is happening.

Why is that bad? She’s my age, it’s her first child and as far as they can see the baby is not in distress.

Nurse, here! Okay, so here's the deal. An infant can be born as early as 2 weeks before the expected due date, or 2 weeks later than said date. However, it's actually much more common for a firstborn to be born early than on the exact due date, and it's very rare for a firstborn to be born after, especially over a week. That may be why they are trying to force labor.
