I would not have picked any of mine ,,but I learned when I was older what a great man my Dad was ,,I was just so mad at him for not seeing the hell Mom put us through ,I did not see what a patient and forgiving man he was ,
She made his life hell as well and him the blunt of many cruel jokes
and his family cutting him off from any help or property that was due him ,,
He chose love over influence and wealth .I always considered him stupid for doing so ,,now my brother and I would own a large portion of the town we are from
But instead ,unlike our cousins that run family businesses ,we had to work hard for everything we have ,,,but we are better people in my opinion for doing so .
Dad was warned not to marry Mom,she was a spoiled brat that would ruin him and cheat on him and she did ,,and since she was wife number 2
He made the best of a bad situation ,,He is the one I learned forgiveness from .
both of his wives cheated on him ,,,,He was a fishermen before I was born
He worked all night and slept all day ,,he didn't have much of a life ,
but he made sure his family always had ,,we always had what we needed .
But as much as I blamed my parents for having such a hard life
Once I left home (I moved out at 13 ,closer to 14 ) I was in control of my life ,not them
Turns out ,I was not such a perfect parent myself
Drug addictions ,,Alcoholism ,,always a house full of people drinking abd getting high ,I am glad my kids were to little to remember all that ,
But I have since admitted I gave their Mom many good reasons for leaving me .
So my point is ,,I am a good man and good Dad and grandpa now
but back then ,,I was just a sperm donor ,,I was not much of a father ..
I am thankful we don't get to pick our relatives
Had my kids known the man I used to be ,,they wouldn't have chosen me
They are my world today ,I would not want to face my life without them
And because of Dad I learned to forgive Mom and learn to love and respect him .
I was thankful for the time I got to take care of them before they died
I finally had a second chance to know and learn to love my parents
I miss both of them very bad ,,,now that they are gone
