What age do you think kids/teens should get a smartphone?

Assuming they don’t ‘need’ one at any point - e.g. they don’t travel to school by themselves, and only meet with friends at their/your house, etc., so there’s no need for you to be able to contact them directly.

When they can pay for it
Nobody needs a smart phone. So when they can buy it themselves. Otherwise they get an old school flip for emergencies and such.

Not until they can show they can be responsible to handle that kind of thing

Depends on the kid.

Agreed. @AbbyCiara

I only got a flip phone at 11 because I had to start walking to and from school. If I’d been able to take the bus, I’m not sure when I would’ve gotten one...
But anyway, it’s really more of a game thing I can text with than a phone at this point...

I get it in that situation. I have 14yr olds saying they want iPhones for Christmas but they don’t ‘need’ them so I don’t really want to go down that road yet. @ScrewThisImDone

Oh, I don't know... probably when you're comfortable with your child looking at pornography. Because that's what happens when you hand a teenager a pocket-size computer with unlimited access to everything.

Eh, 16. Before they can drive I see no reason they need a phone really.
