I'm a father and a husband but am still surprised at how many women want to be mothers.

Ladies don't need me to tell them the pain and trauma involved. Obviously it was expected a few generations ago, but why nowadays?

For many, the monthly business is extremely painful and a misery in itself. You get used to coping with it, and I’ve never really heard a female say she doesn’t want kids because of the birthing process itself. It usually seems to stem from the realization of sacrifice and responsibility, and I think that’s becoming more and more common. There will always be the nurturers though who hear the music of the biological clock. I like to think that this new level of choice will eventually minimize the damage of mothers who never wanted to be mothers. That’s a nice a thought.

@JustNik I was including the worry and responsibility in what prompted my question. What you say makes a lot of sense.
