Why do parents slap their kids in the face?

Like when I have a smart mouth my mom mostly slaps me across the face and says I'm such an ungrateful brat and I should be grateful and stormed off. God parents especially mothers are dramatic.

My parents never slapped us kids in the face. All the slapping was on the place made for spanking - our bottoms.
