There was a mom on EP who, as a little girl, was expected to curtsy to important adults such as her pastor or her teacher, and whenever she was presented to a new adult for the first time.
Raising her daughter in the 1980's she taught her daughter to do this too, although she realized it was passing out of fashion. She felt it helped her child make a good first impression.
When her daughter got to be in later elementary school, she begged her mother not to make her curtsy to her teacher anymore because she was the only child who had to do that, and it made the other children think she was a little suck-up, when actually she was just obeying her mother's rule.

@Badseed I find it sad that such good old customs are fading away. I have always found to be a good sign of respect and politeness, when a girl or a woman curtsy.
