What are your thoughts on this?

My son, who is six years old, has a list of chores that he can do throughout the week. Each task accomplished earns him a certain amount of money, or allowance. At the end of the week, on Friday, the money he has earned goes onto a prepaid Visa card, which he uses to buy games, music, or whatever on his Xbox or tablet. He gets paid, which he loves, and he has a payday. He loves this. He can spend it, or he can save it. What do you think about it?

I think it's a great way to teach him how to be responsible. :) But of course, you need to remind him that there are things that shouldn't require payment.

I read something like this somewhere. What the mom did was to put a list of her own under the son's bed. It goes something like: taking care of you when you're sick - 0.00, preparing your breakfast - 0.00, showering you with love - 0.00

I think in the story's case it's cute because the kid was being too much. But if you can see that your son is becoming someone better because of the strategy, I'd say keep it up and just remind him that some things shouldn't require payment. It all depends on the kids. They're all different you see.
