Did/do your parents ever use wacky expressions?
My mom is famous for this. One of them is, "Lord love a duck!"

Mine didn't but I met a girl once who would go on and on about people "popping her bubble" (deflating her optimism by unpleasant theories or statements or harsh possibly/likely realities) lol
