I Am Not Very Close With My Relatives

I see my extended family during the holidays only. We call maybe once or twice in between those times just to make sure everyone is alive and okay. Really that's about it when it comes to staying in touch though. I can't really say it bothers me. I like things this way.

I talk to my brother like once a year and we text twice. We still love each other, we're just not close.

@Elegy exactly. We care for each other but we don't have to talk everyday or see each other even once a month. If something was wrong we wouldn't hesitate to call each other and make sure everything is okay. We just have always been like this and it doesn't bother me or affect how i have relationships with others. I believe it has made me more independent.

It gets worse when you all get kids etc. They can also be a good reason to get together though if you stay close, geographically speaking.

@Elegy agreed and maybe i suppose if we lived closer we may be closer but we all live states away. So there's that as well.

I'm the same way....extended family I see for a few hours at Christmas, maybe a birthday party or two when the cousins randomly invite us, but that's really it. I suppose it's a bit pathetic considering most everyone lives within 30 minutes of me. But like you I'm alright with it too.
