A happy Mother's Day kind of post
Wishing all Moms here to have the best kind of weekend, not just the day itself. And also by extension Women who would be Mothers but for whatever reason aren't I honor thee also.
For those struggling at this time for personal reasons, for moms aren't automatically great just because they gave birth, to think upon Motherhood in general, and of great examples.
I had a great mom, she's been gone since 2021. She had Depression which was exacerbated by dad. She however had gifts for humor, music, and was what some circles call a prayer warrior. She could be a support to those who didn't have anyone else, selfless giving. She also liked true crime documentaries, some of the major sports like basketball, hockey, curling, tennis etc. A piano teacher by trade after a career in a phone company, her students all of them formed deep connections with her, some of them formed deep connections with dad before he left for the care facility. She had breast cancer, and was given a kind of pill that the doctor should not have given, or insisted for her to cease when not doing what it was supposed to, I remember pleading with her to not have any today, last few weeks she was sleeping 24/7, it was scary times, lots of screaming at dad. Foremost in my head was let's not make any mistakes!! If her beliefs were true, she's doing a heck of a lot better than the happiest most fulfilled person alive.
Religious beliefs for me personally complicate things generally, but for my folks belief kept them anchored, and feeling secure.
Anyways, appreciate your moms while they're there at least, and if you simply can't stand them, which is understandable, do not feel guilty over that, simply minimize hard feelings, and be respectful.
