My Crazy Family

I don't talk with everyone on my side of the family.

Never knew my dad. My mum, sadly, passed away many years ago now. I have an older sister, her wife and her two children. One that I do get on with, one that I don't.

But me and my sister are tight. We live miles away these days. Some 8 years ago she took the decision to live down south. We were in each other's homes all the time. A sad time when she moved for me.

I find it crazy that we both married women too!

But we chat a lot via video call, text, plain old phone calls etc - every few days - and, up until Covid happened we'd drive down, or she'd come up quite regularly. I miss those days.

Obviously, during Covid was a nightmare. We met up just the once in a whole year. Think we both cried and cried when we saw each other.

So she's the only family I have - Samantha, Kaz and Hope - and I have good friends - Sarah and Felicity. My wife's family have been pretty much ignorant to us as she's seen as the black sheep of the family, unfortunately.

I guess you can pick your friends but not your family. I am grateful of those that I get on with, and those that I don't, well, whatever...

They say that about choosing your friends vs family but my family is small and I have no siblings but don't know what I will do once my parents are gone. I have my group of lady friends and my daughter's still.

Maybe people appreciate people they do have in their lives more now after being split apart like we have.😔

@carolinehugz Yes, I think that's probably it. Being more appreciative of people.

@AmberDuponte yes we should hope something good comes of all this. A but like people now like working from home and like the flexibility in their lives.
