I Love My Family

My father is 75 years old. I am seeing with grief how in these last few months he is in a deep decline. His legs are weak and he cannot take long walks as he used to. His memory often fails him. All this is taking its tall in his mood, he is quite down, he just wants to stay home and lie down, and he is totally self-absorbed, only the way he feels seems to matter to him now.

Seeing him likw that not only makes me sad, but scared too. Scared to see how fragile we are, how deeply connected our body and our mind are. And scared to think one day I can be like that too, not being able to enjoy life at all and making life difficult to those around.

I hope he feels better soon. It's true the body and mind are connected. We must never take our health for granted. It is always hard to see a loved one grow old and weaker by the day. I hope your dad gets small moments of joy watching his grandchildren or when you spend time talking to him.

@novembermoon Grandchildren are the only thing that gives him joy now. It is hard to talk to him these days, he is quite self-absorbed.

@Cierzo Another reason to have children. They give love and joy.
