I don’t matter or mean anything

One of the hardest things I’ve had to accept is how little I hear from my own children. My son and daughter rarely call or text. I’m not asking for anything big—I’d just like to hear from them. A simple “Hey Dad, how are you?” would mean more than they probably realize.

People don’t understand how painful it is to feel forgotten by your own kids. I think about them constantly, and sometimes I wonder if they ever think about me. I don’t need money, favors, or anything from them. I just want to feel like I still matter. I’m their father, and I miss them more than I know how to put into words.

I think that kids see their parents as people who have everything, and need nothing. They see us at "another level". Not at "their" level, with emotional needs etc. They're too busy sorting their lives out.I think. It's not that they don't care, it's that they don't think we have a human need to feel loved and appreciated.

I can understand how painful this must be for a parent. Parents spend so much of their lives raising and caring for their children, and all they ask for sometimes is a little love and a simple How are you? I hope children realize how much their presence and a little message can mean to you .
