When it comes to subjects she has an interest in enough to ask questions and discuss socially (such as current events etc demonstrated through the fact that she was watching the inauguration) I have always encouraged her to not just talk to me but also get information elsewhere, and tried to teach her many different views and opinions on everything instead of just telling her what to think and say. I don't brainwash her, I inform her during discussions of all the pros/ cons of each point to the best of my ability (a habit I picked up at university that requires you to analyse a lot of people's work and view points and generally be very open minded), allowing her to draw her own conclusions.
