What band name would you name your child after?

There was a girl on a TV quiz just now, called Nirvana. I'm guessing her parents were fans. I don't think my daughter would have appreciated being called Stone Roses.

Nirvana is a concept from Buddhism. That is still my first association with the word, as I learned about that long before the rock band came along and chose the name. (But I am a nerd!) It's possible that that is the source of the girl's name.

But your post inspired me to do an experiment. I Googled "Nirvana", with no qualifiers. I am using a laptop. The AI summary statements and Q/A at the top of the first page are almost all about the band, although one question asks "what is the meaning of the word Nirvana." After that, I searched through six pages of hits, and only one -- Wikipedia -- was about the Buddhist idea. I even saw hits for a Nirvana Cannabis Dispensary and some other products with the brand name Nirvana, but I never found a single web site about Eastern religions in that first six pages of hits.

Of course, if I add "Buddhism" to my search terms, the results are quite different. But the internet's collective default assumption is that Nirvana refers to the band.

All of which affirms my statement above that I am a nerd! 😄
