I Think Kids Say the Darndest Things

I bought a copy of the newspapers wanting the boy to read the Opinion pages where the editors give their take on the week's news. After all, he is soon going to be thirteen and ought to know more about the world. I passed him the papers and was glad to see him stop fidgeting and get down to reading. After twenty minutes, he turned to share. "Look Ma, I think we should change our car.' Facepalm. Goddamnit. Why do they have those car advertisements all over?

My son's going to be 13 in March and count yourself lucky that yours even looked at the car advertisement mine wouldn't have even done that much. I used to think at least he was reading when he played certain video games because all the writing pops up, but nope he just skips it all. As for news, I'm kind of glad none of my kids read our local news somethings are better that way, and they get enough world news from TV.

Haha. I feel that kids are doing too little in-depth reading. They may read stories but as they go for the plot, they miss the language. They may read news but they do not stop to think and reflect on the implications of that piece of news. Everything is about being fast and efficient. And I don't like it. I really hate how they plaster advertisements on front pages of newspapers.
@novembermoon: I feel they do come to the intricacies but take their sweet time to reach there.
Be easy!

Ha! At least he's setting his sights high-it could've been a moped!

A motorcycle 😂😂😂 . Public transport's the way to go. Thirteen-year-olds had better learn 💰 doesn't grow on 🌴
@Peppapig : Now you have a point there! :)

Newspapers sales are plummeting, so their main income source now is advertising.
It is all about selling in the world today. Goods and ourselves.

I cannot accept it when advertisements take the front spread. It is like saying - 'the car company has more important things to say than the news we bring you'. It's crap, really.

@novembermoon: Sadly it is so. Media have lost it totally. They are just about selling. Goods and opinions

You really can't blame kids to act so and that too this boy of all others!
Love to (((you both))).
