Speak Less Smile More [I Hate My Inlaws]
When I married my husband, I had a hard time connecting to his mother and sister. Something didn't sit well with me. My sister and mother in-law would make me feel small with little condescending comments when my husband would be conveniently in another room. Well, fast forward four years, I have distanced myself and family from my mother due to toxicity that my mother-in-law once judged but now exhibits. Where my mother would bash my husband to me, she is bashing me to my husband...
This all started when I spoke out against my sister-in-law, who crossed some very big lines. My mother-in-law said she would not take sides but understood why my husband and I were upset. It is now almost Thanksgiving, and we have decided to stay home and have dinner with my bestfriend and her family. My mother-in-law keeps bringing up how we are going to have to agree to disagree, but when you call in to question ones marriage there isn't a whole lot to agree with. I would like an apology. Along with all of this, I discovered my mother-in-law is having an emotional affair with her first ever boyfriend, and continues to even after me and her kids know about it.
So I in general have lost respect for her, but Monday morning, my husband called to talk to her and she bashed me to him. She was upset because my best friend threatened to put my son in time-out at the zoo. She said she wanted to kick our butts, and that my best friend has an influence over me, but the only thing that's changed is I don't just allow her or her daughter to plow me down. I guess they wish I would Speak Less and Smile More, but I can't keep pretending what they say and do is okay.
