I Am a Father

I am a father and I hope a good one. I am close to my son now but there have been moments that were scary.

The scariest moment I ever had with him was when his fiancé called us at 1:30 am to tell me "dad (she called me dad) Jason is OK but." I hate when they add the but. She told us there had been an accident and Jason had gotten burned. We met them at the hospital and son's ear looked like a cooked pork chop. His arm was burned on the back and his side. His body was trembling from the pain. I can tell you that stuff is hard to watch. He was hurting and bad and I couldn't do anything. They were playing poker in a garage when the host decided the fire pit wasn't burning high enough and used a can of gasoline on it.

My son's fiancé was an RN actually a intensive care nurse. So if you believe people come into your life for a reason she sure did and they broke up later. But she got the doctor we needed and took control of things at the ER. They shot son full of morphine and the doctor who knew his fiancé let my son go home because she promised to take care of him and she did.

They put Silverdine on burns with gauze and wraps but you have to wash it off and reapply twice a day. Nothing can prepare you for listening to your son's screams. When they do the shower at the burn hospitals they have loud piped in music so you can't hear yourself scream. He recovered though does have a scar on the back of his arm up from the elbow but his ear shows no visible signs.

He later met someone who was more meant for him and they are the parents of the lovely little girl pictured here. Kids are great but grandkids are truly special.
