I Am a Mother

“I believe one of the most horrific, detrimental things we have done to children, which they carry into adulthood as it shapes their very destiny, is our creation of 'the box' in which we regard everyone in it normal and everyone outside of it not normal. I think the traditional classroom and it’s appendages of expectations bears the greatest responsibility in establishing this paradigm of 'normal' vs. 'not normal' but we have all, everyone of us, played our part effectively.” ~ Kelly Crawford @ Generation Cedar [c=#BF0000]http://bit.ly/2kYJBfl[/c]

This philosophy has been so carried, however, that it now is being applied in ways it really shouldn't. There are some boxes that are supposed to be there. There is nothing wrong with uniqueness or differences and such things should be celebrated within individuals and cultures and accepted and not ridiculed, but only so long as they are not harmful. There should be a box that is taught and taught well, and that is the box of right and everything outside of it is wrong.

And even some things that are not necessarily 'wrong' should not be normalized as they are not healthy or beneficial in the long run.
