You ever hear something and it makes you cry?

My teenage daughter has a bf who spends a lot of time at our house. He is painfully quiet. I never know what to say to him. His mother died of cancer just last year. He keeps his feelings to himself. While talking to my daughter yesterday she said " you know what he said to me? He said I really love your mum". He talked about how he loves being at our house and doing family stuff with us. I had no idea. I must have cried for 10 mins. Im so glad we can give him that. 18 is a hard enough age, without losing your mother.

Those kind of situations with family, death or disabilities with family members make me sad ...especially with children like losing a parent especially. Sometimes I feel like trying to mentor some children to be sure they going in the right direction

@Midlifemale I intend to do that for him when he needs it. He's a good kid.

@Kuronekko you are a good mom to help like that

@Midlifemale You just picture your own kid going through that, you know?

@Kuronekko You should cook, or something where you can be together, which will create close contact and necessary conversation This would really drag him out of his shell and make him comfortable

Be better, at least the first time, if his g/f is not there. That so he isn't so self conscious
