Being grounded became the trendy punishment or "consequence" when I was a teen. Some friends I knew had this and it seemed lame to me. I got a hard smacking if I did anything deemed bad enough and I would bet I was more afraid of that than simply sitting at home watching TV or reading.

My mom doesn't care that much about my grades. Yeah D's or F's on mid trems or report cards are not acceptable. But if I forget to turn a paper in then and there or forget to study for a test they aren't going to be mad because they don't care enough to look on Power School.
