My Dad Almost Got Scammed

Someone on Instagram created an account just for the purpose of scamming people, and he/she targeted my dad. The username for this account is someone my dad knows. They also took all of her photos, including profile photo, to make it look more authentic. He genuinely thought he had won $10,000. All he had to do was send them $200 for "processing fees." I'm glad he showed me this. He was a little skeptical, but he had been talking to this person for several days. He thought he was talking to his friend, who claimed that she, too, was a winner, and she was showing him how to win. I showed him his friend's real account. Of course, her photos had been uploaded throughout the years. The fake account, however, had every photo uploaded on the same day. He was skeptical, but he really wanted this to be true. I told him to ask this person "how the injury was going." They played along of course. His friend never had an injury.

My dad is actually a smart guy, he's just new to social media. He never thought that someone would try something like that. He wasn't aware that this is common on the internet. He always assumes the best in people. Keep an eye out for your parents/grandparents who are on social media.
