To me i think it depends what your relationship was like and whether either party behaved badly during the time you were together.
Dismiss it all you like but in truth, the older you get the more people who knew you when you were younger are about, the more valuable those interactions.

Even though my ex and I have a pretty good relationship if I was remarried I doubt she would call.

Life is not a sitcom. There's a reason an ex is an ex.

My parents have been divorced for over 20 years. They talk regularly and exchange birthday pleasantries.
Honestly, they get on better now than they ever did when married.

@Gingery I had that but I think his wife developed jealousy. I send him a text every now and then usually about my daughter. But this year I sent a Happy Birthday message because it's been a while. I'm also less angry and more "over it". But I want him to know he is not forgotten.
I'd much rather give myself papercuts to my eyeballs and squeeze lemonjuice in them.

My rule is, no.
emmasfriend · 46-50, F
We have sent birthday messages, occasionally not regularly.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@emmasfriend mine isn't regular either.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
Lol. Given the way some things were handled in our marriage and now divorce .. not hearing from her again is both preferred .. and expected. ;-)

I know people who separated amicably who are on good terms with their exes. I've never asked but I don't think they would object.
But I also know people who I thought would be together for ever who divorced and now won't even mention each other's name.

@ninalanyon it's good to be reminded that everyone is different.

HAPPILY REMARRIED is two words.

Most recent ex? yes. Very much so. Depends on how far back you go and which one though. some I would not care to hear from ever again.
looking4thesun · M
She is the mother of my children. I don't have any thoughts on this one way or the other.

Depends on the Ex. Most ended due to toxic situations. I would be uncomfortable receiving any outreach what so ever.
lissah · 36-40, F
It doesnt matter
Mindful · 56-60, F
@lissah I texted my ex of 16 years. I think his wife won't like it. I just think he deserves to know he mattered to me. He was a big part in my life at one time. He's the father of my daughter. I'm just hoping it's good for him to know I do remember him.(that's all-- I don't "want"him --I just care)

I was hoping I’d get a happy birthday message from my ex…
But in the grand scheme of things, probably better that I didn’t

For me thinking of this is entirely theoretical, and it would be a nice thing I imagine, in a brightly lit kitchen would be the setting, like in a early scene in the Swedish film of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Makes no difference
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I don't want to hear jack shit from my exes.
Bang5luts · M
Never hearing anything tbh
