My great-uncle told me about his granddaughter. She had been engaged to a young man who was drafted into the Vietnam War. Her hair was straight and growing long, he asked her before he left for the war to never get her hair cut. So he served his tour of duty, came home & they got married. After a couple of years he started asking her to cut her hair short. She refused and it became a source of contention in the marriage. Her hair continued growing, my uncle said it was long enough to sit on. The husband kept insisting she cut it and she absolutely refused. They ended up divorcing. I thought that the hair probably reminded him of the war and for her it was a reminder of her loyalty to him while he was gone. Too bad they couldn’t have sorted this out.

@DoubleRings I have never heard anyone else getting a divorce for this reason. It’s only hair. She kept it washed and done up nice but he couldn’t stand it. I’m sure it brought memories of the war. Too bad he didn’t get some help and maybe they could have compromised.
