I Am Divorced

The smartest women come to terms with the reduced lifestyle they have after divorce. They reaffirm their priorities or commit to changing their lifestyle. They do not rely on their ex-husband as their long-term financial solution, nor do they see "finding another man" as the solution.

Why is the man always expected to pay alimony, even if he's the one who helped "put them where they are"? Even if the wife makes more money?

I'm not whining, these are legitimate questions.

@polyandrym66 While I appreciate the thumbs up, I legitimately want to know why this is the case. I mean, if the wife did the working 2 jobs while hubby went to college, blah blah blah; I can kind of understand alimony. But if the roles are reversed, why is the husband still expected to pay alimony?

Is alimony some kind of societal punishment for getting divorced?

@xixgun I think that alimony laws were based on providing for kids that stay with Mom..

@xixgun Have you been divorced?

@polyandrym66 And I can understand that, in that situation. But what if there are no children?
Basically, you have 2 single people, who happen to be married. One helped while the other went to college; the college grad now has (and has always had) a higher income than the non college grad. So why should the non college grad have to pay alimony to the college grad?

@xixgun alimony laws differs in different countries. Like the question you asked these are issues that should be well addressed in the court especially if no child is involved but when kids are involved the children's well being comes first.
For a man that pays more alimony even when the man is earning less that is for countries that understand the equality of men and women and considers women situations in the society. But not in some countries that women are taken as second or slaves to do the men's bidding.
You do not want to see that i guess?
