What places left in this world still allow caning as punishment even for 20-somethings?

Note: Not the fetish kind, but the type of punishment in households run by authoritarian parents.

Caning isn't a thing where I am from. Probably during the time of my grandparents and earlier, disobedience was dealt with punishment, and canes could just count among the things used to hit a child's backside. These days, some parents can still discipline kids in a similar way, but I don't hear as much about them.

When we were school kids, corporal punishment was carried out in Catholic schools. Now it's practically unheard of.

I know in Singapore, this is a punishment for various offenses committed by adults. Same in Malaysia, Brunei, and certain regions in Indonesia.

Now if you tell me if you are from the UK and caning still happens, then it's for probably a certain demographic involving consenting adults. That's more likely a fetish.

So when someone brings up caning by her mom in an unsolicited private message, I got suspicious right away. But hey, I really don't know everything.

I grew up in the 1960s in the USA and the paddle was the thing in school, never a cane or strap or anything else like that. Definitely not a flip flop or slipper. I never heard of canes used in any setting. Switches were used at home on kids but seemed to be fading out in the mid 1960s. At home it was almost always the dreaded belt, and always the paddle at school. I’ve only heard of the cane in old Victorian European settings.

@BackyardShaman I think so too.

My dad was old fashioned like that.

@MrsRachelEvans And rightly so!
@MrsRachelEvans He was quite firm with you but I suspect that on occasion you earned a few strokes of the cane. The original poster seems to think this is rare but you are living proof that there are still strict parents!

Prior to about the 1970s (don’t hold me to precision on timing) physical punishment of children in the home and school was a common and accepted practice. My father was strict and used a strap on me sometimes and I went to a Catholic boys school where the cane was administered.

Attitudes have changed over time and now corporal punishment is either banned or considered socially unacceptable. That doesn’t mean individuals don’t practice it but I would hope sparingly and in moderation.

A few parts of the world still include corporal punishment as part of their judicial system ie for adults. You have identified the better known ones, but it is still used in several African countries. That is not because they are brutal in their thinking but because as poorer countries, they don’t have the infrastructure to cope with incarceration or other remedial facilities. Quick justice is the better option for them.

That's not quite correct. You or I could commit any offence we wanted in Singapore with absolutely no risk whatsoever of being caned for it. The only offences in Singapore for which caning is a punishment are those commited while being male.

@Sharon My initial statement came from a search using Chat GPT, with the disclaimer that the knowledge sources are updated as of Sep 2021. Browsed through Wiki and Reddit a bit. So yeah, several comments did state that the laws favored women.

@Sharon
I'm open to correction however.
Was that a Freudian slip lol? ;-)

@ArtieKat You wish.

Real caning as punishment in my opinion is a thing in the past....more of a fetish.

A DM on this site? Some dipshit trying to get his rocks off.

@ineedadrink I was a tad suspicious, but then so many migrants move to the UK and so maybe some traditions may have been brought there.
ineedadrink · 56-60, M
@IamCuriousBabe I guess that is a possibility. But in the context of SW, I pull my 🤨
