Why I went throughout the whole county on my bike.
Thing was there was still limits on most kids. Which really didn't apply to latchkey kids.
A few times a friend joined. Yet his parents often refused. I really don't recall any girls at all allowed to go places with other kids. Especially not with boys.
Furthest away for girls was their own backyards. Or perhaps the school bus stop. Never more than a block or two.
One girl I had to walk past the bus stop, just to walk her TO the bus stop. 🤣 I really didn't mind either.
Why another girl was constantly calling for me to go to the five and dime store for her. 🤣
I was the only one home by himself. I could get away with it. Even in the third grade.
My mother never even met either girl or their parents. Definitely not my father either. Every weekend I walked or rode my bike to his place. Yes, by myself more than a mile away. Bringing back the alimony on Sunday night.
Totally a different time in the extreme. $40 a week was a lot of money for a kid to walk with in the 60s.
The responsibility was expected above in each and every point. I never missed a day of school in both grade school and junior high as well.
BTW both girls passed away long ago. 😢 They never had a chance to learn responsibilities even in the 1960s. They still weren't given a chance to learn.
Ever wondered why little red ridding hood was all by herself in that fairytale? It really wasn't to cause fear in kids. It was to show kids how to handle themselves.
To not be afraid. Especially young girls. Yeah bad things can happen. Yet without bad things you'll never learn either.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Me To... Riding Bicycles in my Old Neighborhood when I was a kid,having Friends, ect.... I miss those days... I am an adult now... I just have to ride my Adult Kick Scooter and Longboard Skateboard to the Park by Myself... SAD! 🤣🤣🤣🤷🤷🤷🛴🛴🛴🛹🛹🛹❤❤❤
