A GIFT OF SAFETY: Prioritizing Children's Brain Health This Holiday Season

As a concerned parent and advocate for children's safety, I want to share some important information with you all. As we celebrate the holiday season and think about gifts for our kids, let's also think about their safety and well-being. I've been thinking a lot about youth sports and the potential risks of head injuries. Contact sports like hockey, rugby, soccer, martial arts, wrestling, football, boxing, and lacrosse can carry risks of head/brain injury. Let's prioritize our children's safety and well-being, especially when it comes to activities that involve head trauma.

Our children are so precious:

Kids just want to have fun and play. They just don't understand the risks. So, it's really up to us as adults, to ensure their safety and protect them from harm. Let's make informed decisions that prioritize their health and well-being, even if it means having tough conversations or making difficult choices. Let's work together to educate our friends, family, and community about protecting children's brain health.

Did you know that children's brains are more vulnerable to injury due to their developing skulls and brains? Repeated blows to the head, even if not severe enough to cause a concussion, can still cause damage to the brain. This damage can lead to long-term effects on cognitive, emotional, and behavioral development.

As a parent, it's natural to want the best for our kids, and that includes keeping them safe. I want to encourage you to prioritize your child's (or grandchildren's) safety and well-being. Especially when it comes to sports or activities that could involve head trauma. Let's work together to create a safer environment for our kids to thrive. Once they're injured, unfortunately, that can't always be reversed.

If you're considering enrolling your child in a contact sport, I encourage you to do your research and talk to your child's doctor or a medical professional. Let's make informed decisions that prioritize our children's health and safety.

Let's spread love and awareness this holiday season!

Thank you . Very well stated.
@soar2newhighs Oh, it would be awful if our one of our beloved children got injured, so that's why I wanted to help spread some safety suggestions for our kids. And thank you.❤
@LadyGrace You’re welcome.
My big concern is for the safety of young children, even with their parents in and around parking lots. I’ve seen too many children not being held by the hand, dart out into parking lots, and yes because of their age, oblivious to the dangers of traffic. And that might well be the case of the parents…oblivious AT THEIR AGE!! I once saw it at a RR station. A father. holding a very young child, a coffee in the other and his other daughter, no older than three or four start heading for the crossing area at the station. Gates were down and train was coming. Luckily a person near by them grabbed the girl, much to the surprise of her father. Then I heard the “ rescuer” lay into the father. I won’t repeat his words!
@soar2newhighs YES!!!!! You should write a post on that! Please! That's so important! But because it was Christmas, that's why I got to thinking about Christmas gifts and responsible parents. However, your theme fits right up there with that and is just as important. We really have to spread awareness. Please write that post. I just cringe when I see things like you listed in your reply. Good job! 🙏
@soar2newhighs Oh, I tell you that Railroad Station story is chilling. I'm so glad The Rescuer laid into that father. What in the world was he thinking???? That's just it. He wasn't!!! The man never would have forgiven himself if something had happened to that child yet it didn't cross his mind to protect. Unbelievable, especially in a situation like that and I just hate it when people lock their kids and pets in the car and they die from heat stroke. Oh my gosh I don't I just don't understand how you could forget something like that and forget is such a inadequate word. It's just negligence and sometimes abuse because someone might be too lazy to take their kids in the store and they think oh well he or she is throwing a fit anyway so I'll just lock the doors, they'll be safe, and I won't have to contend with that and I'll just be back in a minute. That is such negligence and abuse. Anything can happen in those few seconds. In fact I saved a child from dying when the father parked the car on the hill to help me because I had car trouble, left the baby in the car where he moved the gear shift and the car was seconds from going off a very high cliff and I risked myself to save that child by running as fast as I could when the father saw the car was moving and I just ran so hard I was so scared and I knew that we both might go over but I had to try and I barely just a smidgen more after I dived head first into the car and push the brake on with my hand, missed going over the cliff with the child. How stupid could a parent be! We've got to start thinking!!!! And if a parent leaves a child in the car, who says some idiot crazy guy is not going to break the window and take that child? That's not unheard of! We got some crazy people in this world.
