It went well, here's a snapshot.

I was basically a translator. Between an estranged grandmother and a her granddaughter. They spoke different languages. One English one Spanish. But now that it's over, I need to digest everything. Time to analyze the conversation and the emotional dynamics. The ups, the downs. The new information. The smiles exchanged. Surprises. Emotional exchanges again. Grandma sighed and said, I feel at peace --to finally be able to see you and speak to you again. Me too, the granddaughter answered Do you go to church? Grandma asked her. Do you read the Bible? Why not? Do you save any money? Do you like school? Do you help with household chores? What do you want to be when you grow up? Do you have a boyfriend? Why not? You must have many boys that have a crush on you. The granddaughter shrugged as if it didn't matter or she did t know. It was hard to discern. She was definitely on the higher scale of pretty. I wondered if her personality matched her looks. Someday. Grandma said. Someday you will marry and have kids. It's good that you aren't worried about that now. For now her focus was on finishing high school, and studying business. Physical therapy was a potential career for the future. It was nice to see grandma smile. It was nice to see the granddaughter return the smiles. They shared the occasional "si" and "bueno". And suddenly it was time to leave. Grandma handed her a $20. And she tried to turn it away. But you don't turn away a small gift from Grandma I said. It's her tradition to give a $20. Bill to the kids. She insists. She nodded. I'll save it forever grandma. Your grandma said you do with it what you want. Hopefully you will spend some and save some. Don't be like people who spend all their money before it's even made. I love you they said to each other. Tell your Dad, my ex son in law, that I said hello and that I still love him. I will she answered.
