@OKWTFN: Thank you for saying this. It takes a lot of nerve to make this kind of statement since you risk being labelled ungrateful or "immature," as if, as an adult, you don't know the difference between normal parental discipline and abusive behavior. When people say all mothers are wonderful they mean that their mothers were wonderful and most mothers are wonderful...they don't really mean to exclude those of us who have had awful mothers and make us feel outside the regular human race.

I do realize that this main post here is about the joy of having a wonderful mother, and sharing that memory with others here, including those of us who just weren't that lucky. I appreciated reading it. Many mothers really are just like that, strong, nurturing, amazingly wonderful.
