We fly home to Rome on Monday
It’s a respite break as normally we would be at the family farm just outside Palermo. Since my grandmother died in March we have been kind of stuck with the idea that my uncle wants to farm the land and return some of the outbuildings my grandfather had converted for habitation back to storage facilities for fodder and the like.
My grandparents were of the mind to doing the same thing only on a lesser scale and he still made the conversions. It’s my uncle. My parents and us are going to Sicily next week to look for a property to buy close to if not in Palermo.
I’m hoping that my uncle (who can be a very real asshole) will change his attitude in time so that we can get to see the cousins that we have grown up with, but we are not going to hold our breath! He will hopefully mellow out somehow and we will be able to get the family together again.
