I have always had a very close relationship with my father
He has never been that kind of man who is almost scared to have any physical contact with his daughter. He is a tender man who even now will give me a full-body massage, seeking to help me relax and deal with my anxiety and my troubles. He has always wanted to help, and to offer fatherly advice and direction for the things that preoccupy me. His fatherhood is ongoing, there is no fear of being sexual because he isn’t! I’m his daughter not his wife!
The fact that so many father-daughter relationships are ruined because one or other of them fears this kind of identity. That is a psychological issue and it needs addressing or your family will suffer greatly. Mental discipline is the reward of having a relationship with God in His Church, and a prayerful life. I am confident because of my father, I am not fearful to be in his presence! That would be something abhorrent to me, to not be able to speak to him about my worries, even my physical worries.
Parents are never, in my and my brother’s experience, people to be afraid of, to fear for physical reasons. Neither of my parents have ever struck either of us, my brother and me, and they have always used reason to teach us that they have never wanted to stop us from doing anything except that which they know will be harmful to us. That’s what parents are supposed to do, give their children the benefit of their experiences in life.
