My daughter visited the other night
And regaled a tale of her soon to be FIL and how he falls asleep at the wheel. She said it was so normalized in his family that no one even thinks about it anymore. They let him drive and his wife will punch him to keep him awake.
My daughter was not okay with that (thank god! I'm so glad I raised her to stand up for herself), so to avoid future trouble, she told her soon to be MIL that sje and her fiance would drive themselves for any family gatherings.
Apparently, the MIL went absolutely insane emotionally over it, denying that he falls asleep and that none of her kids' partners want anything to do with her and her husband. It was a whole thing as she melted down.
My daughter said that she told this to her therapist and her therapist told her she needed to thank me for not ever being a mother like that. LOL
So she did.
Ngl, I feel pretty validated by that.
