I'm not fond of compulsory gift giving.

The expectation seems to genuinely be that you just accumulate more and more stuff in your finite home until you eventually die. If I find something someone will like, I'll happily buy it for them but these days that doesn't happen as often as it used to. More and more products these days are just stupid and low quality anyway.

My sister and I both sent out gift registries this year. Glad we did but completely defeats the purpose.

Coordinated lists was always how my family did it growing up. Nowadays with my brothers without the lists, it’s “what do I even get them?”
As adults the whole thing is mostly ritual habit.
The whole thing is mostly for the kids, and they’re a lot easier to shop for.
