Were you ever put to sleep as a kid with melatonin or benadryl?

To keep it short, when i was a kid, if my parents were tired, they would slip me a melatonin or benadryl in water or juice. Just wondering how common was this back in the days, 20+ years ago.

Even though my parents never did, I think my generation’s folks used alcohol, like whiskey or brandy, to knock the kids out.
