Were you ever put to sleep as a kid with melatonin or benadryl?

To keep it short, when i was a kid, if my parents were tired, they would slip me a melatonin or benadryl in water or juice. Just wondering how common was this back in the days, 20+ years ago.

I had allergies so I got Benadryl a lot, almost every day from spring to summer. I do remember mom saying it would help me sleep, but only after I was like..... 12 or so?
