It's horrible for those left behind, but you honor him by being there for his passing. Giving him dignity in death is your last solemn responsibility as his daughter. Mourn the loss, treasure the memories, and love your father. This is the way of things. I didn't understand all of that when I was in the moment when I lost each of my parents, but an old friend of my Daddy’s spoke those same words to me as I foundered in grief and despair. He said it was supposed to hurt but that I was not the only person who had lost him.
It's taken me over 20 years to find the solace and wisdom in those words and I hope you find them too.
