Strange reactivation of old responsibilities

My daughter just informed me that her father, my ex, fell and crushed a vertebrae. She says he’s in serious pain and the meds aren’t working, and they don’t think surgery is required but they have an appointment tomorrow with a surgeon to make sure he doesn’t need surgery.

I feel this intense pressure that I should be taking care of him. We’ve been divorced for more than a quarter-century and have rarely even spoken to each other.

Old habits die hard.

It sounds like the pressure is coming from the joint offspring. Have you inquired exactly how much of the required care she is intending to provide?😷
@whowasthatmaskedman To begin with, he already lives in an assisted living complex. My daughter freely agrees to help either of us with anything we need and follows through.

She has a husband struggling with mental health issues and his 15 yr old daughter, who is with them 50 % of the time. She is running her own business.

She never said a word about me stepping in and would refuse if I offered.

Not everyone has a squinchy heart. You just see your own reflection.
