The kid is taking it hard...

He outright asked his Mom is she knew who he was and she said, "No." For a while he's wondered if her dementia had gotten that far, but was afraid to actually ask the question. It's tough to deal with, but he says actually knowing for sure may allow him to move on a bit with dealing with the situation. He went for a drive after telling me he'd asked, and I sat a cried for him for a bit.

Heartbreaking. It’s in no way the patient’s fault…and those of us outside the dementia have to develop thick skin to get through it. But such a piercing sense of loss.
Im so sorry.
My mom is headed down the same path. She knows who I am,. But shes forgetting ….everything. Im scared for her. Im sad for her.

@nonsensiclesnail And there is nothing that can be done. And you wonder just what she remembers, how much she understands of what is happening to her. :'(
I’m so sorry. I remember when I first really understood how it was with my mother. 😞
