describe the basement of your home. is it dungeon-like dark and dreary with large hopping insects and cobwebs??
pretty certain i have the flooding solved...mine will soon be bright and cheerful!! Lots of work to do this winter

Before relocating to a bungalow, I was 33 years in a Century home.
Its basement had exposed beams with remnants of ancient wiring. Concrete, utilitarian, with decent clearance and good lighting.
Largely dry, except in heavy rains.
