Do you have a good relationship with your family?

I don't have a relationship with my father and he's gone bat shit crazy no joke they have him on a hold right now. He threatened to kill me because I wasn't calling him enough which is when I stopped talking with him. The last time I saw him was at a family funeral and when I gave him a hug and told him I loved him he pushed me away so I've stayed away. He's drank and drugged his mind away but some of the stuff he did to us as kids he knowingly did in his right mind and I just can't forgive and forget. Even if it's what healthiest for me.

I don't have much of a relationship with them at all anymore. I was always the black sheep of the family and that rift has just gotten more pronounced the older I've gotten.
@thepeculiarpanda Same, I really only talk to one cousin and I am working on trying with my Mom but for everyone else I am the black sheep.

@SlippingAway I'm pretty done with my parents at this point. Same with my sister and youngest brother. I get along with my middle brother but we don't have anything even approaching a relationship at this point.

I wish someone had told me adulthood was going to be so complicated. 😅
@thepeculiarpanda Yes I hear ya, not talking with my sister right now because I didn't want to move to her state (mainly because there was no work for me there) and she hasn't talked to me since. My brother is 18 years younger than me so we don't have much of a relationship.

@SlippingAway My sister and her family live with my parents and she's been becoming more and more like them in the last few years which I just can't handle. My youngest brother is eight years younger than I am and he and I have never had a good relationship. He won't even acknowledge my existence at family gatherings at this point.
@thepeculiarpanda Ughh family

@SlippingAway Yup! I think my siblings and I might get along better if our parents hadn't uprooted us and dragged us all over the place when we were kids. It really strained things between all of us.
@thepeculiarpanda Yes that can be hard on kids. Mine were just dysfunctional in a lot of really unhealthy ways. I had to raise myself and my little sister.

@SlippingAway I definitely feel you on the dysfunctional part of it. They took us to a religious college campus when I was 9 and my youngest brother was 2 and put me in charge of all three of them.
@thepeculiarpanda yikes I am sorry you had to deal with that

@SlippingAway I definitely don't think I would have chosen it for myself but it could also definitely have been worse. :) I wish they had taken better care of our health along the way though, I ended up disabled at 22 likely because of some of the things they ignored along the way.

Life is such a crazy ride!
