It's his way to share with you all what emotions he is connected to. Either he want to be remembered with those emotions when he will not be between you all, or he just want you to enjoy your life with what he want to share. It depends on the genre of the songs.
I guess, you should listen to the whole list in front of him and share your feelings about the emotions/theme in the songs and how you liked it.
