I care about my brother a lot but it's hard to talk to him, because like everyone else in my little family he doesn't really ask how I am doing

He just wants to talk about himself.

I know that's literally all I do on here, but it's because I don't really irl.

And it kinda hurts that my dad never asked, my mum doesn't either, and my brother doesn't. I always made an effort to listen to them.

But THAT'S WHY the connection is not strong

The moment he starts talking about himself say "I'm also good and doing good thanks for asking"
Also my favorite is when someone fakes that they care and ask how you are only to steer that question back to talking about themselves...wonder why I'm such an introvert ....anyway sorry about what you are going through...it sucks when you feel like no one cares in your own family

@pripyatamusementpark I'm sorry you deal with this too. And yes I hate when people ask you a question just to tell you a story about themselves omg.

I mean I don't really, but when it's all they do it definitely becomes deflating.

I never realized until very recently how much they do it and how it's potentially affected me. And I also find I choose friends that do this (though most are better)
@caccoon It's why I am picky about my friendships. I always seem to attract these self absorbed types..but realizing this has made me more careful

@pripyatamusementpark it's weird I find I actually prefer not to talk about myself in person, but maybe it is just because it is what I am used to. Like I never feel like people talk too much or I'm not getting a word in, I just prefer not to say anything now 😣

Do you find that?
That's how my family is too...they only care about themselves...incredibly self centered and self serving ...no one ever asks how I am or how my family is . I understand this all too well.
Oh.. some people talk a lot and you can never get a word in .. sigh
