My sister is in that situation. Someone has to break that cycle, but it’s definitely difficult and filled with feelings of failure. 😔
Best of luck. 🫂

@Colonelmustardseed you know.. i started watching the middle.. and its helping me set reasonable standards for myself. Its kinda amazing how much its helped me.
I know this feeling very well. Then they get older and aren't as affectionate and you feel a part of you die all over again.

I had a similar circumstance... same zero affection at home when growing up and my first serious girl friend was always wanting to snuggle, hold hands, lots of hugging and it was the most uncomfortable thing I'd ever experienced.
I got over it fairly quickly, but she never could understand why I wasn't affectionate... the touching, hugging constantly being close, etc.

Because that rarely ever happens. We would be a incestuous society, if that were to even come close to that occurring.
And that we most definitely couldn't deal with! We couldn't allow it to happen.
Incest is probably one of the most strongest taboo, that exists in all of history. Even primitive permissive nudist societies avoid incest.

@DeWayfarer No, you’re the one inserting context. Plenty of other people understand what he’s talking about is emotional neglect in his own childhood; because plenty of other people experience it and then have to be emotionally more available for their own children once they’re adults.

@Colonelmustardseed I am not the only one questioning that last statement!
I'll let him answer for himself!

@DeWayfarer Good idea. My own argument comes from my sister’s situation which I mentioned in my own comment, and I know what the context is for her. But individuals best make their own cases. So I will bow out.

Feeling “touched out” is a legitimate thing ❤
You get it. I’m sorry you get it. But this explains it 💯.

I did as well and it was also abusive.
I am extremely affectionate myself if I am safe .

This reminds me of the first episode of the show king of the hill.

You'll get use to it. It's a worthwhile adjustment.
