For all your parents or babysitters, can you please explain the reasoning behind why you do this?

Why is it that When a toddler, or older child like 7 years old gives an adult a hug, the grown-up always squats? Even when standing your child can easily hug you, so you can easily return their hug. What does squatting have to do with any aspect of a hug? For any parents that have kids in this age range like me, when they give you a hug, Why do ya'll squat with you toddler? Why do ya'll squat with your 7 year old?

just stay standing for both kids. See? both of them are hugging alongside the adult just fine. Why wouldn’t you do this with both toddler and 7 year old? Why do grown-ups squat every time?

a few examples of what I’m talking about, imagine in these photos they are giving each other a hug.

When you are eye-level with someone, it is an embrace, which is what a child desires. You can wrap your arms around them and give them affection with your whole heart. Eye to eye means they matter, they have value, they are worth the affection they are giving to you. A child is not a dog wanting their head patted. And the fact that they want to embrace you should be enough to risk your bad knees to accept their precious gift.

@WaryWitchWandering There is nothing like a child falling into your arms.

@Pinkstarburst Exactly! Even my dog likes me to lay on the floor so he can snuggle his head and lay beside me to be at my level. It's love and respect being shown.

To get quite literally on their level… to connect better

There are a few differences between a hug and an embrace. The examples images you posted are that of a child embracing parents, which is not hugging. The squatting or bending down by a taller person to hug a person lesser in height happens basically to meet the eyes and face .. and rest the face on each other's shoulder.

Think more like a pet. Why does it want to lick your face or go on your chest and like with cats need you on your belly or chest.

This happens all the time BTW with all pets, of their own doing.

Now try rubbing a cat's belly instead of not petting it's head! 🤷🏻‍♂

Why does a cat climb onto your shoulders? 🤷🏻‍♂

It's the head that matters to even pets. All pets look at your head. Even when they are on the ground.

So do children.

Welcome to SW. You really know how to make an entrance.
You posted 3 pictures which disprove your theory.
Your agenda has been thwarted

A young child can hug my Lego’s, but to really get my arms around them I either need to be at their level or pick them up.
Askawaytoday · 41-45, FNew
@Pinaymom but look at those pictures. In the second one just pictured them hugging each other. They’re both able to wrap their arms around each other right? Just like with my toddler and my 7 year old daughters. What is the difference between picking them up or “being at their level”, versus wrapping your arms around them and giving them a hug like these pictures?

How the heck is momma supposed to love you like a rock if she can't get down on her knees to hug you???

Think about it. Then I reckon you could guess why.

I had a kid hug my waist and look up to me instead.
