Wow I feel so loved and honoured 🖤
I had to work yesterday, however I was invited to my friends' anniversary celebration, so I went directly to their place after work. They live a few streets away and my daughter's already explained to them that I would come a bit later.
When I arrived I got the most awesome welcome and the wife said she was asking all the time when I was coming... And to my surprise my son ws already there and playing with my buddy's kids as they are friends too.
My son then asked if I could go around to our place as he wanted to fetch his chess board and some game cards and I figured I needed to charge my phone in any case so why not?
Then my buddy's daughter (I think she's probably 9 or so) insisted that she wanted to go with us... Now me having a history of being a protective father and not really trusting anyone with my kids, thought that would not be a good idea as I know her dad has the same protectiveness... But she insisted and her dad heard her and came to me and said she could go along, which really surprised me!
So we were on our way, but boy oh boy the kid was talking my head off all the way 🤣.
On our way back, just a few meters from my buddy's place, I heard running footsteps behind me and as I was turning I felt someone grab me from behind, holding me very tightly and I was about to swing my elbow to the person's head, but when I saw who it was my heart melted! It was my buddy's brother's daughter (I think she's about 14 now)...
I turned around and hugged her back and then the kid planted a kiss right on my lips, which of course took me further by surprise 👀... Yeah a bit awkward...
Then she insisted on walking with me to my buddy's place with her arm hooked through mine and when we got there her dad was surprised to see her to (they don't live together but she lives literally just around the corner from them) and she went an hugged and kissed him too... Aaaah I see it's the whole fatherly figure thing and I felt a little less awkward 🤣... Well I have known her since she was probably and she and my daughter's were in the same marching drill squad together...
Anywho.. then after a while my buddy came up to me and said, there is no one else he would trust his kids with, but me 🥺... DAMN that threw me off balance!
They have always treated me as family since I got to know the couple since my twin daughters joined the marching drill squad that my buddy was the coach of (he's ex military) and him and his family once spent almost an entire week over at my place a few years back and we just really bonded. I also learned to trust him with my daughters as there were times I couldn't be around and he was there, so to this day my daughters still visit them often...
Then the wife reminded me of my own words... "Blood makes you related... But LOYALTY makes you family" 🥺.
DAMN WHAT A NIGHT! We only got home around after 1am... AND NOW IM HUNG OVER 😭.
