In today's "screw and forget" society, this is more the rule than the exception. High body counts have become the norm and is nothing alarming anymore.

As long as the parents loved someone else before they got together, I am fine with it as it is none of my business to judge what they did, whom they saw and had intimate relationships before they got married. Who am I to judge?

However, if that would happen while they were (or still are) married, then I would be devastated because it would mean that the one of the parent did not respect the other enough to remain faithful. I would be shattered to know that the sexual hormones were more important than the love and care the other parent gave.

You don't state whether this love was prior to being married-

@Stephie

Yours is a well-expressed thought.

Good point - I was going for a man or a woman being in love with someone else before and/or after marriage. I suppose a situation like the one from The Bridges of Madison County was what I was thinking. Nothing shady or selfish -

@SW-User If it happens during marriage, then my perception of my parents would be shattered and the way I looked up to them for being those parents that I put on such a high pedestal would crumble within a second. I would question whether I may have been part of their behavior or if I could have prevented it in a way or another.

The only difference between now and then is that now people are open about doing the very same things that used to happen also before but were kept hidden. If you believe that people back in the days actually waited for marriage before having sèx, or anyway that they had a lower "body count" than people do now, I have a massive bridge to sell you.

"Screw and forget" is as old as humanity itself. It's always been here, it'll always be here, the only thing you can do is criminalize it, as it was in the past (especially for women), but it'll continue to happen regardless because it's written in our very own species' DNA (and not only ours, pretty much every other animal as well).

@Elessar I am a firm believer that those days before the porn industry normalized it and made us believe that you need to have a high body count to be someone, people lived a healthier sexual life. Of course cheating existed before but it was more frowned upon rather than applauded.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Stephie Yeah, a believer indeed, as that takes really a lot of faith because pretty much every historical reference available points out that humanity has never been any different under this aspect.

Cheating was never applauded and certainly isn't applauded right now. The only difference between now and then is that people are aware of it happening, whereas back then there was stigma even just talking about it. If you were a guy you would've kept it hidden (the problem was never cheating in itself, but if the thing became public knowledge), if you were a gal you would've been strongly ostracized or even legally/physically punished for adultery. As a bonus, if you were a gal and it was you the victim, you would've taken the blame in place of the guy as well ("this wouldn't have happened to her if she wasn't such a bad wife"; I have literally female family members who went through this route as late as the 1950-60s)

Look at how Iran treats its women, that's pretty much how life was in the past in the entire west. It's hella ridiculous seeing people romanticize the past by forcing themselves to look at it through pink tinted glass, or even blaming internet-based pornography for things that have been thoroughly documented to happen for at least 5,000+ years (i.e. ever since writing was invented, so probably even longer than that as well).

@Elessar I do study ancestry and when I dwell and dig into those ancient records of the 18th. and 19th. century church and civil registry records, then my hair just stands up when I read some of them and not just with the nobles but equally with the peasants.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Stephie You're seriously expecting to find the evidence of that happening secretly in.. official records? 😅

Talk to anyone who lived through the era or who was grown by people who lived through the era and rest assured that reality will turn out to be a lot less "romantic" and "idealistic" than it's painted by the modern conservative agenda.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@Elessar I do find tons of records of illegitimate children in the church record, indeed

Who am I to judge?

The reason today's society is "screw and forget" is because people are afraid to be labeled judgmental and just ignore it. That's how deviance becomes normal.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Stephie Because it's no longer happening in secrecy. It's not rocket science.

You can try moving in one of those nations where "deviance" still leads to a death sentence and see if you like it better.

Yet, for some reason you choose to live in the USA instead of Iran or Russia, and so do 99% of those I come across who's constantly rambling about "deviance" and "traditional values".
@Elessar I'm not a Pedocrat so why would a death sentence for deviance bother me like it bothers you?
Oh, do "traditional values" offend you? Never mind. We all know the answer.

Ah, yes? So I'm assuming you dislike all the people in this pic equally?

Besides, also historically, political movements like Trump's start eating their own supporters alive as soon as they run out of "enemies" to blame their own failures on. See how many Putin "allies" fell out of a window just last year.

Oh, do "traditional values" offend you?
Marital rape, domestic violence, misogyny, homophobia, to mention a few.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@NoThanksLeon And anyway, you didn't answer. If it doesn't bother you, why haven't you moved to Russia/Iran yet - places where the very policies you advocate for are already implemented and thoroughly enforced?

It's almost like you (plural) don't quite put the money where the mouth is.

@NoThanksLeon Proof?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@NoThanksLeon As expected, none. The typical edgelord who doesn't place the money where the mouth is
@Elessar 🙄 smh ... The proof is in the pudding.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@NoThanksLeon So still none
@Elessar 👈🏽 The proof just answered. 👆🏽
Elessar · 26-30, M
@NoThanksLeon You have no idea what "proof" even is, let alone about whatever you're rambling about lol
