Shitty parents.

So my parents have decided (after being invited by my sister for Christmas) that they'd prefer not to come, and watch their soaps at home on Christmas day!

Second year in a row now they've declined.
My two youngest are with their dad Christmas afternoon. So me and my eldest (21) are going to my sister's.

Christmas is about family.
Seems my parents didn't get the memo.

This said they're not very good when it comes to the important things. Never have been.

They're still hurtful even now we're adults
Visited my brother last Saturday (we live in same town) but didn't check in on me. They've done this several times now.
I don't drive so can't visit them.

Smh.

Sadly you don't get to choose your family but you can choose your friends.

@pdockal Thanks. I guess they loved us in their own way but kids need to know they're loved. Feel wanted. It's damaging otherwise.
I'm the complete opposite with my children....my kids are my world.

@Purplerain78

Maybe have a conversation with your parents ?
Might be time to clear the air and regardless of the outcome you'll probably feel better

@pdockal Thing is I don't think it would make any difference. We were never allowed a voice growing up so talking to them about important things is difficult anyway. Plus they have false memories, say stuff that never happened, to look as though they were good parents. Or they'll simply deny it. My siblings feel the same.

It's not for them or about them
It's for you
If your siblings join the conversation kinda hard for them to deny stuff

I'm sorry you have bad experiences with your parents. But the good thing, you'll be a much better parent than tey were. 🤗🤗
