I doubt that one subject would be most common for all or even most men or women.
Lies fall into 3 categories:
- politeness or tact,
- projecting a self-image,
- con job or brainwashing.
However, one could extend the definition and say every act of story-telling is a lie,
because no matter how sincere the author,
the nature of language makes it impossible to tell the whole truth.
For instance, if I say something is blue - or even if I try to describe the exact hue, no amount of skill with language could guarantee that you can picture the exact colour I am seeing.
The best we can do is cultivate good probability, congruence, motive and bullshit barometers.
