My grandmother Dobroniega.

My grandmother, is my only surviving grandparent, now. Her husband fought in the Ten Day War, and was wounded quite badly, and he managed to live long enough for me to meet him, but when I was five he died. She has remained a widow, although she has a rich number of friends, who come and see her most days, since she now has mobility issues.

She is the one person I can go talk to about how I feel, because she had a good number of problems at my age, and the memories of her own mother's experiences during the war with the Germans. It was always awkward for her, being half-German herself, and all her children were born with those blond blue-eyed looks so prized by the Nazis. She has a wonderfully empathetic nature which I have always appreciated, in my sole grandparent.

Dobroniega is a Slavic name which contains word "dobro" - good, goodness and "niega" - delight, and may refer to:

Dobroniega of Poland - a Polish princess member of the House of Piast and by marriage Margravine of Lusatia.
Maria Dobroniega of Kiev - a Slavic princess member of the Rurikid dynasty
